Hernia that needs reduction
Hernia that needs reduction will require surgery which can be done by open or laparoscopic method.
Hernia that is incarcerated
In this case, since the hernia cannot be pushed back through the opening because of tissues filling the sac, it needs to be repaired.
Hernia that is strangulating
Because an organ or its tissue is stuck in the hernia, this calls for emergency treatment. Such a hernia is dangerous as it cuts-off the blood supply to that organ or tissue.

Medication
In some cases of Hiatal Hernia, your doctor may suggest medication to alleviate the symptoms if surgery is not absolutely necessary.
Open Surgery or open Repair
In this surgery, the surgeon repairs the weak muscles through which the hernia has pushed itself out. An incision is made near the hernia to open up and repair the same.
Laparoscopic Surgery

Surgery with or without Surgical mesh?
Surgical repair of hernias can be done with or without a surgical mesh. A surgical mesh – synthetic material used to support weakened and damaged tissues. It supports the muscle walls and prevents the hernia from coming through it.
Open surgery can be performed with or without the mesh while laparoscopic surgery is performed only with the mesh. Both mesh and without mesh have their own advantages.
